Dear School Community,

We are fully committed to ensuring the continuation of our award-winning band and color guard programs.  Since we learned of the director’s resignation from their extra duty assignment, high school administrators and school district leaders have been actively working toward a long-term solution.  It’s what our students deserve.

Our district is fortunate to have six talented Music teachers.  Their teaching assignments ensure they operate within the parameters of their contract.  We can appropriately serve each school building’s instructional needs with our current Music teaching staff and will not be hiring an additional elementary Music teacher at this time. Simultaneously, we are actively interviewing well-qualified candidates for the CHS Band Director; an extra-duty position.  We are optimistic that summer band rehearsals will resume very soon.

We are grateful to the many passionate CHS band and color guard students, alumni of the programs, and family members who spoke so passionately at July’s Board of Education meeting.  We are in direct communication and collaboration with the Band Booster Executive Board, and current band student leadership, to ensure their voice and input is considered as we make plans for the program’s future.

Collingswood and Oaklyn Public Schools have a rich history of strong music instruction, with high levels of student participation, beginning in our elementary schools, and continuing through middle and high school.  This is a proud tradition that will carry on.
